I painted this thinking about decisions.

Not the big life ones we make sitting down with a cup of coffee. The ones that happen standing up, heart already going, when you have about three seconds to choose.

On a mountain that choice is obvious. You can see both paths.

In life you usually can't. But the feeling in your body is exactly the same.

The older I get the more I think courage is not about being fearless. It is about choosing the harder thing anyway. On skis, in relationships, in work.

The safe line is always there.

Crossroads is 50 x 50 cm, oil on canvas. One of a series about what drives us toward the edge and what holds us back.
