Sanita Balode

Sanita Balode is a visual artist based in western Norway, working primarily with abstract painting.

 

Living and working in Voss, Balode is surrounded by powerful landscapes and an extreme sports culture where risk, focus, and physical presence are part of everyday life.
Her work captures the tension of stepping beyond safety, revealing how moments of danger can transform into life’s most powerful affirmations. A lush color palette and an expressive approach to compositional balance define her artistic signature.

Rather than depicting places, her paintings evoke states of being.
They focus on the point where instinct meets consciousness  and where danger is felt not as loss of control, but as clarity.

Painter investigates the impulse that draws us toward speed, falling, and risk as a search for vitality and self-understanding.
She works intuitively, without sketches, allowing each layer to respond to the previous one.
Movement, interruption, repetition, and intensity remain visible in the surface, making process an integral part of the work.

This environment feeds both the emotional energy and direction of her work.

Sanita Balode holds an MA in Fine Arts from the Art Academy of Latvia (2002) and has been a practicing artist since graduation.
She has lived in Norway since 2011 and is a member of NBK and BKFH.
